A blue self-portrait

A blue self-portrait

  • Oil on Linen board | 30.3 x 23cm | Framed | Ready to hang

I have been painting predominantly landscapes and so painting a self-portrait is somewhat confrontational. Instead of reflecting on the feelings associated to nature, this is a reflection on a more personal and deeper level, as it is a painting of myself.

The choice of blue in this painting is intended as a calming effect. I often associate blue with the sky and water and for its tranquillity. The blue also symbolises a period of internal-reflection and deep thoughts. I'm shown here, caught and absorbed in my own thoughts. The light however signifies revelation and a moment of clarity after a period of reflection.
